The APPENDIX is an area of the intestines whose true function is less then presently understood.

It is also referred to as Vermiform Appendix.

Vermiform comes from latin – meaning “worm-shaped

It is a small tube-like pouch that lies near the aspect of the cecum of the Large Intestines.

It is located in the right lower side of the abdomen. The location can vary greatly between individuals.

It has been argued that the purpose of the appendix is no longer necessary to the human race today, but that possibly it was a necessary organ of the past.

Appendix itself often becomes infected and without surgery can, in most cases, cause serious harm without its removal.

Possible uses:

1.)  Immune Function

  • Possible function during fetuses stages
  • Possible function in adults

2.) Maintaining gut flora
