
Fibroadenoma of the breast
Is a common benign tumor found in young women – typically within 20 years after onset of puberity.
Can occur even earlier in black women and is seen more often.
The cause of breast fibroademonas are unkown
Multiple tumors can be found in 10-15% of patients
Symptoms:
- A round or oval nodule is found on exam.
- They can be rubbery
- Somewhat movable
- Usually non-tender
Can enlarge during pregnancy
As age increases so should the concern of other possibilities that are more alarming then breast fibroadenoma

No treatment is necessary if diagnosis is by fine needle aspiration and cytology report.
Some women may decide to removed the fibroademona
Continual monitoring by Mammograms , Ultrasounds, and additional physical exams.
The prognosis for fobroadenoma’s are great due to the non-cancerous aspect of this finding
Some arguements for increased breast cancer risk are found for those who have fibroademonas, therefore continual monitoring by a health care professional should be sought.
