Coccidioidomycosis is a fungal infection that typically affects the Respiratory Region but can affect others as well.

It typically begins by inhaling spores from Coccidioides fungi.

Also referred to as Valley Fever

This spore is often found in semiarid climates such as: The United States, South America, and Central America

Many are exposed to the fugal infection but only a small portion has adverse symptoms.

Very rarely complications can include spreading of the fungal infection to skin, joints, bone, and brain tissue.

Worse complications are often seen in HIV patients

Symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Breathing changes
  • Voice changes
  • Dry mouth
  • Some Experience Pneumonia with symptoms for months on end

 

Treatment:

Antifungal Medications

  • Diflucan
  • Amphotericin
