There is a large amount of absorption of iron from dietary means.
As a result Increased iron deposits on liver, kidney, heart, pancreas, and others
Cirrhosis can occur especially with individuals who drink alcohol
Patients can present with diabetes, heart failure, renal problems, and others
Rarely recognized before the 5th decade
-Â Usually asymptomatic
-Â Joint pain
-Â Enlarged liver
-Â Skin color changes
-Â and others
Liver biopsy may be appropriate
-Â Avoid foods high in iron
-Â Weekly blood draws until adequate iron supplies and then maintenance thereafter.
