Leiomyomas are most often found in the Uterus, Esophagus and Small Bowel.

But they can be found in any organ with smooth muscles.

 

Uterine Leiomyoma

is also called Uterine Fibroids

It is the most common of the female genital tract.

Typically it is round and firm. There can be several located in the muscle or tissue

Are typically without symptoms and are found incidentally.

Some possible symptoms:

- Bleeding
- Pain
- Urinary problems
- and other difficulties can occur.

Ultrasound is helpful to locate and watch the neoplasm.

Treatment can be varied depending on number and location.
- Watch and wait
- Hysterectomy.

Esophageal Leiomyoma

- most common benign tumor of the esophagus

Symptoms
- Often there are no symptoms
- Diffuculty eating
- Vomiting
- Food regurgitation
- Heartburn
- Weight Loss
- Cough
- Painful Swallowing
- others

Biopsy and Endoscopy are essential to ensure the tumor is benign

Treatment
- Removal by Endoscopy
- Surgery

Small Bowel Leiomyoma

or Leiomyoma of the Small Intestines

- Most common benign tumor of small intestines
- Can be found in Jejunum and Ileum

Symptoms

- Stool color changes [Black or Dark]
- Abdominal pain
- Abdominal mass
- Obstruction

CT can help diagnosis Leiomyoma

Treatment
– Surgery
