Medroxyprogesterone is a progestin and is common component of oral contraceptives for women.

Progestins decrease the risk of Estrogen caused or associated uterus cancers.

Uses:

1.)  Abnormal menstrual bleeding
2.)  Amenorrhea
3.)  Endometriosis
4.)  Hormone Replacement Therapy

Risks

When used in combination with estrogen – may increase risk for  Heart Attack, Stroke, blood clots found in lungs [Pulmonary Embolism] or legs.

If used for menopause in combination with estrogen then the usage should be expected for only a short period of time

Side Effects

–  Nausea
–  Vomiting
–  Weight gain
–  Depression
–  Change in menses

Pregnancy –  do not use in first 4 months
