A type of drug for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus Type 1

Also referred to as “glinides”

Action:
   -    Similar action as sulfonylureas
   -    Increase in insulin in blood stream
   -    Decreases blood sugar levels

Types:
.         Repaglinide   [Prandin]
.         Nateglinide   [Starlix]

Uses:

1.) Diabetes Mellitus Type 2
    -    take prior to eating   [0-30 minutes]

Side Effects:
   -    Weight gain
   -    Nausea
   -    Diarrhea
   -    Hypoglycemia
   -    Abdominal discomfort
   -    others
