Paraneoplastic Syndromes is a group of symptoms related to a rare form of Lung Cancer and are not fully understood.
Some neoplasms have the ability to secrete hormones or other proteins that results in changes in symptoms .
Symptoms may be related to Endocrine Disorders
This can occur in up to 20% of lung cancers
Importantly this can cause changes in:
1.) Emotions
2.) Physical nature
3.) or other aspects of the person
It does not necessarily mean that metastases have occurred.
It differs from having a neoplasm in the affected area that these hormones are typically released.
Some examples would be:
- Inappropriate antidiuretic hormone
- Abnormal increase of calcium
- ACTH or Adrenocorticotropic hormone
