Is a disorder with very similar aspects to Autism
Asperger’s has difficulties with social interaction, speach, and some development.
There also may be an associated change in language use and some clumsiness.
There is typcially no difficulty in language and minimally, if any, change in desire for social interactions.
Differences or changes can be seen in the first 2-3 years.
Symptoms:
- Difficulty with non-verbal communication
– Decreased or abscense of empathy
– Insensitivity
- Decreased acitivites
- Some awkardness in social settings
– Speech may be loud
- Changes in emotion
– Changes in motor skills
– Changes in sleep
Cause:
– Unknown
– Possible genetic component
Management
Several options exist regarding improvement and control of several symptoms
Age related improvements may be accomplished by specific interventions
Large amount of stresses including social and educational difficulties.

Typically adults with Aspergers have a better prognosis then those with Autism
