You may have seen it. The hyped up “Hollywood” image of a patient on a medical table with electrodes strapped to either side of his head. The doctor pulls the lever to release a major explosion of electricity that shocks the body and causes the patient lying on the table to scream and writhe in pain.
The CPAP is a machine whose function is to provide continuous warm, humid airflow into the airway through a machine which is connected to a tube through a mask that is worn over the nose and mouth during sleep. This machine will gently force the airway open, so that it does not collapse during sleep.
