Also referred to as Hypertriglyceridemia
Levels of Triglycerides in the blood can be elevated.
Can lead to the following:
1.) Atherosclerosis
2.) Heart Disease
3.) Stroke
4.) Pancreatitis
Symptoms:
- No symptoms are typically seen
- Xanthomas – deposits of triglycerides in the skin
- Itching
Causes:
- Obesity
- Diet
- Diabetes
- Hypothyroidism
- Kidney issues
- Excess Alcohol
- others
Levels
Normal Less then 150 mg/dL
Borderline 150-199 mg/dL
High 200-499 mg/dL
Very High 500+
Treatment
. Niacin
. Statins
. Fibrates *** not used as first line treatment
- Gemfibrozil
- Fish oil
- Omega-3 fatty acids
- Diet low in Triglycerides
- Exercise
