The prostate is a gland important in males. It is often described as the size of a walnut.
It is located just below the bladder. The prostate gland helps in the production of semen, a fluid that helps transport and nurish sperm.
It is considered an exocrine gland of the male reproduction system. Women do not have a prostate. The Skene’s gland in women is the homologous organ.
The function as previously mentionned is semen production. The prostate helps store seminal fluid and spermatozoa. Only about 30% of the volume of semen comes from the prostate. Another large portion comes from the seminal vesicles.
