Carbon dioxide is necessary and important in the respiration of the human body. Oxygen is transported to tissues and Carbon dioxide is taken away from the tissues.
Carbon dioxide is essential in the control of the pH of the blood. It is referred to as a buffer system to maintain proper levels.
Bicarbonate ions, carbonic acid, and carbon dioxide help this system. pH of blood increases when hydroxide ions are introduced.
pH of blood decreases when bicarbonate ions attach to hydrogen ions. To elevated or to low of pH is dangerous and life threatening.
Other dangers of CO2 are
- Asphyxiation
- Frostbite
- Kidney damage or coma
Oxygen is found very prevalent in the atmosphere and is one of the top elements in the universe. Oxygen can be toxic to some bacteria
1 oxygen molecule often combines with other elements
2 oxygen molecules is used in cellular respiration
3 oxygen molecules make up the “ozone”
Respiration
Several metabolic reactions require oxygen and the result is ATP. ATP is the energy molecule of the body
Oxygen enters the body through the lungs and passes through tissues and into the blood stream. In the blood it attaches to Hemoglobin which attaches to 02. The color of blood changes from a blue color to a bright red when oxygen attaches.
Oxygen is essential for survival.
Several diseases require oxygen therapy. Oxygen therapy is by oxygen masks or nasal cannulas
Such diseases are
– Emphysema
– Pneumonia
– some Heart conditions
– and others
OBVIOUSLY it is more important to breath CO2 because that it is what trees and other plant life forms need to survive. If we, mankind, were more concerned about the environment and saving the rain forests than the aliens would stop abducting us as universal political statement.

Oxygen is way more important — cant survive without it!!

Oxygen is required. Just a few minutes without out it can cause heart problems, brain damage, ischemia, and other conditions.
But I also think too much carbon dioxide can lead to problems as well.
But if I had to choose one…I would choose oxygen is more important

Are you kidding? O2 is definitely more important.
