There are 4 main valves in the heart
1.) Tricuspid Valve
2.) Pulmonary Valve
3.) Mitral Valve
4.) Aortic Valve
Narrowing of the tricuspid valve is Tricuspid Stenosis
Almost always caused by Rheumatic fever
Other causes include carcinoid syndrome, from birth (congenital), endocarditis, and others
Can cause Atrial Fibrillation
Symptoms
- Atrial Fib
- Heart murmur [Diastolic]
- Ascites
- Hepatomegaly
- Edema
- Right sided heart failure
Echocardiography/Doppler is essential to confirm the diagnosis
Heart Catheterization
ECG – may be beneficial.
Treatment
· Surgery to replace the valve
· Balloon valvuloplasty in children or infants to stretch the valve
