Wegener’s Granulomatosis is a disease of unknown cause but is a form of Vasculitis.
Occurs when certain blood vessels that become inflamed and swollen.
Blood can become difficult to flow in several areas of the body.
Presents with Kidney problems and some vessel irritation or inflammation.
Affects Lungs, kidneys and other organs as well.
It is seen in both men and women of all ages, but far less often in younger patients.

Symptoms
- Joint pain
- Fever
- Rash
- Chronic sinus pain
- Skin rash
- Weight loss
Classic findings are: sinuses, nose, ears, and trachea – the “windpipe”, the lungs, and the kidneys
But findings can almost be anywhere
Diagnosis
- Biopsy of affected area
- Examination under microscope will find the affected tissues.
- Blood work
Treatment
Acute phase
- Cyclophosphamide 3- 6 months
Once in remission
- Azathioprine
- Methotrexate
- Corticosteroids
For more serious cases the do not resolve with 1st line medication
- Rituximab
- Infliximab
- Etanercept
- And others
